The Lie Masters Admit They Lied
Bush Campaign Acknowleges Digitally Altering Photo.
Um yeah, they took a handful of soldiers and cut and pasted them in again and again and expected no one to notice. Are they really this stupid or do they just assume that we're all this stupid?

Pulling Out All the Stops on the Dirty Election Express

Mosh The Vote
Eminem may be a little late to the party but he came packing some pretty heavy guns in his Mosh. Reviews say that it does in three minutes what Farhenheit 9/11 did in two hours. But I think its actually more than that. I think Eminem's tapped into the usually pretty docile and easy going masses who are finally just pretty damned fed up with the bullshit and the lies. Its also a good video as well as sending a clear message of how Mr. Mathers feels about President Bush, its not all that postive.
The result is Mosh The Vote: The Hoodie Army Will Not Back Down and yeah, its a little goofy with the hoodies and all. But its not goofy if it actually gets more people to take part in the election. And there is also the first number I've seen to call in case of election fraud and voter intimidation: 1-866-our-vote (687-8683). Think I might just program that into my cell phone right now, just in case.
And you've gotta give it to Eminem, he can put words together. "And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard..."
More voting means more citizens taking part in the fundamental process of our government, electing our officials, however

The Governor of California Shouldn't Be Campaigning for Bush in Ohio
Our Governor has no business spending time that belongs to Californians by campaigning for George Bush in Ohio. Its not his time to waste and certainly not in Ohio for a president that's been as awful as George Bush has been.
I wrote him a letter telling him so. You can too, Contact the Governor.

The FUD Campaign in Non-Stop Fear Cultivating Mode
So now I'm hearing reports that callers for the GOP are lying to potential swing voters. Telling them that if Kerry is elected then he will ban the Bible.
Um yeah. That makes total sense. He's not completely faith-based (i.e. he doesn't believe that God speaks to him and tells him the right course of action like ShrubYa does) so he must be planning on banning the Bible.
That's right, folks, the Bush camp is scraping the fungus off the bottom of the barrel and resorting to truly outrageous lies to try and sway people back to their side. Notwithstanding daily news from Iraq that continues to knock them down, notwithstanding Bush's own misguided and mispoken attempts to correct himself after munging his words again, notwithstanding the scathing criticisms of his presidency from within his own party.
Nope. If Kerry is elected then he's going to ban the Bible. And he's legalize and put gay marriages on national tv and pre-empt Everybody Loves Raymond and make adult diapers cost ten times as much. And he's also going to put all of America's children to work in the salt mines.
Come on, Shrubya. Pack it in. Quit the lies, quit the smear, realize that you're huring this country with your hate. Step down gracefully and history may remember you more kindly. As it is, you will be vilified with the worst of the worst because that's exactly what you are.

Bush Calls Himself Unfit to Serve
Yahoo! News - Bush Defends Self on Missing Explosives, Rips Kerry wherein Bush is quoted as saying, "'A political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not the person you want as the commander in chief.'"
Kind of like when he went charging in to Iraq on false premises and swore we'd find those pesky WMDs. Kind of like that? Hmm, I can only infer from his statement that he's going to gracefully withdraw from next week's election on the grounds that he's unfit to serve.
Maybe we should institute a mandatory physical before taking office? Bush seems to shy away from those as well as, well, reality.

What Could They Possibly Have to Hide?
BBC NEWS: Bush site bars overseas visitors.
Gee, I wonder why they'd do that? Not that it matters in the least since I've no interest in going through Lie Central. But it doesn't look very good, does it?

Stolen Explosives? What Stolen Explosives? What About John Kerry's Record?
The GOP will be trying their damndest to spin this story into the backpages but its up to an informed (the GOP version would be informated) citizenry to call bullshit on bullshit when its appropriate.
Captain Normal asks A reasonable question that the White House will not answer.
All those explosives are now gone and, presumably, in the hands of the enemy. Those weapons are going to be used against US troops and will result in more unnecessary deaths. Those deaths are directly attributable to one George W. Bush for not doing his job.
The GOP and its many headed spinsters will try and muddy the waters to make the story disappear. They will discredit the reporter, they will discredit anyone associated with the story so as to try and make themselves appear less culpable.
Don't buy it. Not for a moment. The responsibility for securing this huge explosives cache was completely on the coalition forces and that means it was America's problem. They didn't secure the explosives and now they are going to be used to kill more Americans as well as people from other nations.
Bush is lying even as I write this. He's trying to weasel out from under this enormous fuck up and lay blame elsewhere.
Don't let him slip away again (not like he let Osama bin Laden slip away). Don't let him get away with the totally avoidable screw up he's just been caught in. Don't let Bush have any more time to further derail this country. Don't let Bush use his faith-based strategeries to win the peace by throwing ever more money at Halliburton (I thought we were at war with terrorism, why does Halliburton seem to make all the money?).
Don't let Bush get away with another mistake. More here and here and here and probably everywhere else online.
[Update: My newest and favoritist pet theory is that Bush intended on the terrorists getting those explosives so that they can blow themselves up. That way the other terrorists won't get mad at the US for killing them. They'll get all sad and melancholy and then go home to listen to old Smashing Pumpkins albums. Shrub is one clever fella, I tell you what!]
[Second Update: This is telling. Today's iWon survey is about these same missing explosives. The results are interesting.
42% are very concerned about the missing explosives.
42% are somewhat concerned.
10% are not very concerned.
And 4% aren't concerned at all
A whopping 72% thought that explosives were in the enemy's hands now.
When asked about the impact on the election that this news will have: 13% said it will have a major impact, 37% said a minor impact, 37% said no impact (maybe they live in bomb proof homes or something?), 12% weren't sure and 1% didn't care (WTF? how can you not care about 380 tons of explosives getting into the bad guy's hands?)]

GOP Leaders Want to Jump Ship
I need to make my rounds more often, otherwise I stand a decent chance of missing superb posts like Rox Populi's: Real Republicans Continue to Call for Bush Retirement.
Why is it so good? It quotes GOP folks saying its time for Bush to go away. Here are some quotes.
Steve Chapman, Chicago Tribune columnist, "I can't vote Republican this year--and the stakes demand using any available instrument to remove Bush. Kerry is not the ideal instrument, just as a rubber raft is not the optimal vessel on the open sea. But when the ship is sinking, you can't be choosy."
The American Conservative has this to say about Bush, "Bush has behaved like a caricature of what a right-wing president is supposed to be, and his continuation in office will discredit any sort of conservatism for generations. The launching of an invasion against a country that posed no threat to the U.S., the doling out of war profits and concessions to politically favored corporations, the financing of the war by ballooning the deficit to be passed on to the nation’s children, the ceaseless drive to cut taxes for those outside the middle class and working poor: it is as if Bush sought to resurrect every false 1960s-era left-wing cliché about predatory imperialism and turn it into administration policy. Add to this his nation-breaking immigration proposal—Bush has laid out a mad scheme to import immigrants to fill any job where the wage is so low that an American can’t be found to do it—and you have a presidency that combines imperialist Right and open-borders Left in a uniquely noxious cocktail."
And these are the people are that are supposed to be on his side!

Clinton on Kerry
Here's an excerpt from Bill Clinton's introduction of John Kerry at a recent rally,
"In the closing days of this campaign, John Kerry is going on being John Kerry -- talking about his hopes for America; his plans for America; his commitment to our security and our prosperity. Now, one of Clinton's laws of politics is this, if one candidate's trying to scare you, and the other one is trying to get you to think, if one candidate is appealing to your fears and the other one is appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope. That's the best. My fellow Americans, we can do better. And in eight days we're going to do better, with President John Kerry."
And, for good measure, how about some Edwards on Bush?
What's George Bush's faith-based healthcare plan? "Pray you don't get sick."
How can we protect US jobs? "Outsource George Bush."
And on the election, "You cannot stand with big insurance companies, big HMOs, big drug companies, Halliburton, the Saudi royal family and big oil companies and still be with the American people."

Chief Justice's Cancer Raises New Election Issue
Upping the stakes, Rehnquist's cancer means that this election will see his spot almost certainly filled as he will likely have to step down to take care of himself.
And, as 2000 taught us, the Supreme Court is the body that actually will end up deciding who won the election. So it would be better if he quit now and not wait until he tries to give Bush another 4 years to further rape the nation.
I hope he's okay because I know how devastating cancer is. I know because I've seen it happen. And no one deserves the potential fate he's faced with.

Kerry Slams Bush Over Missing Explosives
Good! Call attention to yet another glaring and dangerous foul up on the Bush administration's fault. Now watch the GOP loyalist scurry to figure out a way to blame that one on Clinton too.
Folks, Bush has let you down. He's not delivered on his promises and now wants four more years to take us down the wrong path. The world is a much more dangerous place for Americans, its a more dangerous place altogether. Bush has failed, he's failed on nearly all fronts.
And you and I are more at risk now than we were four years ago. We're in more danger now than ever before. Now we have to worry about the terrorists as well as our own government. Oh boy!
Thanks, George. Now get the hell out and go home to your ranch and toy soldiers.

GWB on Iraq: "We're not going to have any casualties."
In the ever growing divide between reality and the land that Bush resides in, he has been quoted as telling Pat Robertson that the US wouldn't suffer any casualties during the Iraqi invasion.
The disparity between Bush's happy never-never land and reality is growing greater with each passing moment and I have a very hard time believing that anyone would willingly support this fool if they knew just how unbalanced and freakin' nuts he really is.
Everything is God's will, if you're not 100% on his side then you are the enemy, he's never made a mistake as president, he's a hard working man.
All lies. George Bush is a festering boil on this nation. Its time he was lanced and a strong antiseptic applied to the wound so that, in time, he will be forgotten and the nation can forge ahead.

Matthew Yglesias: The Widening Reality-Based Community
I came across Matthew Yglesias' blog, a well written and nearly rant free smart blog. A few days ago, he wrote a short post, The Widening Reality-Based Community, discussing the difficulties that Bush opponents faced in choosing a single avenue of attack on Bush.
There are alot of us now, in this short time. I count myself in the Reality-Based Community because I choose to not overlook Bush's shortcomings, I choose to see and report on his failings as a leader, I choose to call Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft/Rove/Rumsfeld et.al on their lies and deceptions.
I choose to exist in reality rather than Bush's fairy tale land (don't worry, there are no scary gay people in Bush's fairy land) where Iraq is nearly secure, the US is safer than ever and our economy is strong and growing. The reality is very different from the sugar coated Bush version.
I choose reality. It makes it easier to affect positive change if you accept and live in reality. Which side would you choose?

Iranian Security Council Endorses Bush
Bush Recieves a Big Thumbs Up from Iran
So let's see, that's Tony Blair, Putin and now Iran. Yep, that'll help him tons. (Oh yeah, YOU FORGOT POLAND! Hahahaha!)
Why would the Iranians endorse Bush? Let's see "Though Iran generally does not publicly wade into U.S. presidential politics, it has a history of preferring Republicans over Democrats, who tend to press human rights issues."
Man, those pesky human rights issues. Well thank goodness they want a man's man like Bush to win again so they can continue chopping off shoplifter's hands and beatings and treating their people like ashtrays and trash.

Stop Stolen Honor from Being Aired: Sign the Petition
Stop Sinclair Broadcasting from broadcasting Stolen Honor, a skewed partisan documentary about John Kerry that's not accurate and could, potentially, turn some votes back into Bush support.
Go and sign the petition that reads: We, the undersigned, respectfully request that Sinclair Broadcast Group not air the documentary Stolen Honor. We believe that it is inappropriate and unfair to air partisan propaganda in the last 10 days of an election campaign. We will make our position known to Sinclair, its advertisers, and any affiliated organizations.
[Update: Sinclair has released a press release detailing their intentions to not air "Stolen Honor" and that they never intended to air it. I'm sure that will make Jon Leiberman's firing make all that much more sense.
Meanwhile, Sinclair's shareholders have opened up a lawsuit against the executive board for insider trading and the stock is gaining speed as the ground rushes up to meet it.
To quote the less profound Homer - DOH!]

Sinclair Axes DC Bureau Chief
In what's becoming an intensely divided nation pending this election, Sinclair Broadcasting has been planning on showing a propoganda film with the express intent of affecting the election. Jon Leiberman was the DC bureau chief and he spoke out against the filth he was being told to pre-empt regular shows to air. Well Sinclair replied. Sinclair Axe's DC Bureau Chief. Speak out against the evil empire and lose your job BUT retain your integrity. Good on you, Jon. If I ran a broadcasting network, I would hire you in a second.
via Olliver Willis: Like Kryptonite to Stupid.
Lots and lots more happening now. The Sinclair shareholders have filed a massive lawsuit against the executive board for insider trading and Sinclair has issued a very weasely and stinky press release that tries to backtrack on their plans and then says that their board has been harassed because of the outrage demonstrated by the internet community.
And Sinclair Broadcasting's stock? Can you say Noooooooosedive?
Good night, sweet prince! Sinclair is going to go down for this.

Another Fucking Single Issue Idiot for Bush
Do yourself a favor and go read I'm a Democrat for Bush to get some idea of the truly stupid thought processes that people are worming themselves through to figure out some way to rationally vote for Bush.
She wants abortion rights, wants the tax cuts for the rich rolled back, wants national healthcare and wants stem cell research to forge ahead but she's voting for Bush in any case because she doesn't want the terrorists to celebrate his losing the election.
This is the utter stupidity that must be confronted and argued down. Single issue voting overlooks all of the other facets of a candidate's character that make them worthy or unworthy of your vote. A single issue voter, and her issue is based on her own stupid little ill informed opinion, makes about as much sense as reading glasses for a blind man.

The Difference Between Kerry and Bush, Graphically
Visual Comparison Between Kerry and Bush.
The skinny: Kerry was a war hero, Bush pretended to be a war hero. One served, one didn't.
Now shut the fuck up about Kerry's service record.

Jon Stewart on Crossfire, No Really
Check it out, the more I see of Jon Stewart, the more I would like to see of Jon Stewart. He's smart, funny, has excellent timing and actually gives a damn about this country.
Read the Crossfire Transcript and see what I mean. He calls the hosts hacks because they don't debate the issues. They call him a hack because he softballed Kerry while he was on the Daily Show (not like its a real news show, brainiacs!).
Its one of the best transcripts I've seen and I would very much like to see the actual show. But that'll have to wait while the BitTorrent arrangement gets set up.
[Update: Full video is available here. Go watch it, its worth it and does nothing but impress on the kind of man Jon Stewart is and the utter loser hacks the guys on Crossfire are.]

New And Recycled Distortions At Final Presidential Debate
Let's break it down into easily digestable bits.
Kerry was wrong when he said Bush cut Pell Grants. That's not good that he got his facts wrong.
Bush lied when he said his tax cuts went to mostly low and middle income persons. Fifty three percent of Bush's tax cuts went to the highest-earning 10% of the nation. The one's Bush claimed got the tax cuts, got only 13.7% of the tax cuts, which Bush either doesn't understand math very well or he was lying. I'll go with the latter but the former is mighty tempting.
There's more from both sides but I ask you to take a look at what each candidate distorted, which items are more important, which facts would be more damning? It seems to me that Bush fudged alot more on the bigger stuff where Kerry just got some numbers wrong.
I am sick of this election though and the only thing I'm looking forward to is Bush's concession speech.

I am sick of this election though and the only thing I'm looking forward to is Bush's concession speech.
Swift Boat Lies Revealed
Not only did the Swift Boat Vets lie about John Kerry's conduct in Vietnam, they had even gone back to Vietnam to interview the villagers and already knew that Kerry was being truth where John O'Neill wasn't.
Check it out, read Swift Boat Lies and see what you think. I think that it was another contrived dirty trick by the GOP to smear Kerry. And now Sinclair Broadcasting is going to broadcast the movie they made that will do more to attempt to smear Kerry's character with lies and deciet.
And the smear should land right back on Bush and Cheney.
Election day cannot come fast enough to eject this whole hearted asswipes from office.

I'm Shocked! Shocked I Tell You!
Bill O'Reilly accussed of sexual harrassment. When will they leave these good, honest, polite and highly intelligent sex magnets alone? Come on, there's no way a stud like O'Reilly would discuss his sexual perversions with an associate producer.
That's just smears from the Democrats to besmirch the honest character of a man who cares deeply about himself and pretty much nothing else.
Actually, Bill, I hope you get convicted and sent to prison for a long time, long enough that you never walk free again. The world will be a happier place knowing you're getting your karmic payback for the hate you wallow in.

Last Debate Notes: Kerry Goes Three for Three
Its just ended and I've got lots of questions, few answers and no change in how I'm voting and no change in how I think the election is going to go in a few weeks.
First, the moderator was easily the worst of the entire bunch of the moderators. His last question, ostensibly could be the deciding factor for millions of viewers, let each candidate softball about how great their wives are. What in the fuck does that have to do with making this country safer and more profitable?
There were several excellent soundbites, my favorites being Bush "broke faith with the American people when he took this nation to war" and "I'm tired of politicians who preach family values but don't value families".
I'm tired of politicians calling their programs the exact opposite of what they really are. Maybe they were hatched with lofty ideals but their reality is far too Orwellian for me. The Patriot Act isn't about patriotism, its about handing over your rights to privacy in the name of fighting terror. Yes, we need to fight the war on terror but, if in so doing, we change our values and freedoms then the terrorists win.
Anyway, there was a noticable lack of stem cell research lines of questions. Strange given Christopher Reeve's death this week, given Michael J. Fox sitting with Teresa Kerry, a man who's life literally depends on finding a cure for Parkinson's via stem cell research.
The nice thing? Not even Keith Olbermann was able to swing the debate to Bush this time. A strong and solid victory for Kerry at 18 to 3. MSNBC had the debate at 73% for Kerry. It seems like more people thought he did better this time around than before. I thought he did a good job but I think Bush did a much better and almost surprisingly good job of restraining his temper and urge to get a little sideways.
There's been ever growing speculation that the President is wearing an ear piece and being fed responses from off stage. There was the funky box on the back of his suit in the earlier debate, there was the black thing in his ear last time and this time it seems like there's one point where he's listening to someone and then answers the question.
Its speculation but I'd like to sit in the room with a scanner to see if I could catch him in the act.
Overall, another win for Kerry, a hat trick against the incumbent president. Some are saying that they now want to lose to take a rest and to see if the Democrats can repair the damage they've done over the last four years.
The lucky thing is that I believe that John Kerry and John Edwards can actually accomplish much of what they say. Hell, if they get national healthcare then they should be sainted on that one feat alone.
Things look good for now. I expect a win but I also expect a few tricks, twists, surprises, shenanigans and maybe even another full on fix. I don't think an election day fix will work this time around though.
As always, good fun to be found on the MeFi thread. Maybe I'll head out and read some of the reactions. I'll very likely go by Allah Pundit again.

As Oprah Slaps Bush
Morford's Morning Fix: As Oprah Slaps Bush
Be nice to Oprah or she will galvanize an army against you.
Be nice to Oprah or she will galvanize an army against you.
Let's Play a Game Called Who's Served Their Country
I got this forwarded to me this morning and its pretty telling, I think. It takes a speed run through our elected officials and some "pundits" and talks about their military service (or lack thereof). Neither list is, by any stretch, complete and I would welcome more information to round out any of the three lists.
I keep thinking about an old line that goes something like, "A soldier goes to war as a last resort, a civilian doesn't know any better." The gist is that its far easier to send troops into battle if you've never been in battle yourself. I want a leader who's tasted combat, knows that war IS hell and will exhaust (that doesn't mean get impatient and charge in) all other avenues before sending the troops in.
First let's start with the
Democrats:
Dick Gephardt: Air National Guard, 1965-71.
David Bonior: Staff Sgt., Air Force 1968-72.
Tom Daschle: 1st Lt., Air Force SAC 1969-72.
Al Gore: enlisted Aug. 1969; sent to Vietnam Jan. 1971 as an army journalist in 20th Engineer Brigade.
Bob Kerrey: Lt. j.g. Navy 1966-69;Medal of Honor,Vietnam.
Daniel Inouye: Army 1943-'47; Medal of Honor, WWII.
Charles Rangel: Staff Sgt., Army 1948-52;Bronze Star,Korea.
Max Cleland: Captain, Army 1965-68; Silver Star & Bronze Star,Vietnam.
Ted Kennedy: Army, 1951-1953.
Tom Harkin: Lt., Navy, 1962-67; Naval Reserve, 1968-74.
Jack Reed: Army Ranger, 1971-1979; Captain, Army R eserve 1979-91.
Fritz Hollings: Army officer in WWII, receiving the Bronze Star and seven campaign ribbons.
Leonard Boswell: Lt. Col., Army 1956-76;Vietnam, DFCs, Bronze Stars, and Soldier's Medal.
Pete Peterson: Air Force Captain, POW. Purple Heart, Silver Star and Legion of Merit.
Mike Thompson: Staff sergeant, 173rd Airborne, Purple Heart.
Bill McBride: Candidate for Fla. Governor. Marine inVietnam; Bronze Star with Combat.
Gray Davis: Army Captain in Vietnam, Bronze Star.
Pete Stark: Air Force 1955-57
Chuck Robb:Vietnam
Howell Heflin: Silver Star
George McGovern: Silver Star & DFC during WWII.
Jimmy Carter: Seven years in the Navy.
Walter Mondale: Army 1951-1953
John Glenn: WWII and Korea; six DFCs and Air Medal with 18 Clusters.
And now, in the interest of fair play, what about the:

Things You Have to Believe to be a Republican Today
a repost of a comment by Kimberly (who needs to get that template sorted out!)
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a
spirit of international harmony.
The United States should get out of the United Nations. Our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.
HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.
Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.
A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness, and you need our prayers for your recovery.
You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.
Friends don't let friends vote Republican.
Nope, friends don't let friends vote Republican unless both them are getting really big fat juicy kick back checks from the government somehow.

Kerry Opens Three-Point Lead on Bush
Yahoo! News - Kerry Opens Three-Point Lead on Bush -Poll
Yep, I've been reading alot about rats deserting the ship, talking heads in the news flipping and trying to worm into Team Kerry. Who knows if its true but hey, all signs are starting to point to win.
This is good for all of us, except you folks making $200,000 a year or more and well, tough shit, you still make more than damned near everyone else so suck it up and take one for the team.

Thoughts on the Debate
I really enjoyed hearing Kerry call Bush's Clear Skies Act an Orwellian construct. Same thing for No Child Left Behind. Brilliant.
Maybe a little too much for some but I liked it.
That and the movement aspect of the debate made it much, much better. I liked seeing John Kerry stare down at George Bush. I liked him assuming an accusatory stance.
And I like hearing Kerry talk about making life better for the 80% and not the 1% who got $89 billion back under Bush's tax cut last year (according to Kerry's numbers, check them if you want to), Eighty nine billion, hmm, hey wait, didn't Bush get something like, oh, I don't know, $87 billion for Iraq? Funny that.
And how much has Iraq cost now?

Quick and Dirty Debate Wrap
Kerry won, Bush did better but still nearly lost control of himself. Kerry was on the attack and scored lots of very heavy blows early.
There are numerous soundbites and clips to be warped by both sides. Kerry's sputter as he tried to find the word, paralysis. Bush's near bitch slap of Charles Gibson and then the offer of wood. Lots of good stuff for both sides to amuse themselves with.
Its already starting to collect some on MeFi in addition to a healthy and fun comment fest during the debate.
Who won more undecided voters? Who knows? I don't understand how someone can be undecided at this point. It makes no sense to me and it actually kind of scares me to think that the vote lies in their wishy washy, can't make up their mind hands.
Nah, I like to think Kerry will win because of the new voter vote. Voter registrations are up everywhere. There's a huge demographic that isn't polled because they're mobile. And they're pissed because they are the ones being sent to war. Electoral-vote.com has adjusted their methods to be a wee bit more reflective of current electoral estimates. And, surprise, surprise, Kerry's got it by 40 votes.
Watch that map continue to shift. Bush is just about done. I've even read theories that the GOP is intentionally tanking because they think the Democrats can't repair the harm they've done to the country. Which is a really nice sentiment to think about a nation's "leaders".
PS: Congratulations to the Red Sox! Boo hiss on the Yankees and Astros and Dodgers! And a big fucking boo hiss on the NHL for killing this year's hockey season.

Cold Hard Reality Bitch Slap
In Its-Only-About-A-Year-Late News: Bush, Cheney concede Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction.
And yet, they are still holding the line on their stance that attacking Iraq, even in the light of all they know now, was the right thing to do. Neverminding the FACT that Saddam posed no threat and the refocusing of US military might on Iraq allowed Osama bin Laden to get away.

The Veep's Square Off
So yeah, the Tivo did its job nicely tonight. We watched the debate start and then had to go to dog training class.
Class sucked, we had a sub who didn't realize that you have to SHOUT REALLY FUCKING LOUD in a huge room with lots of other dogs and your students in a big circle around you. As it was, I heard maybe every ten word and thus had not the first clue what he was talking about. Luckily, Nande's got the basics down pretty well, she's not good on a short leash though. Oh well.
We got home, watched some of the "analysis" from Biden and Graham and then rewound it to where we stopped.
First reactions, Cheney's voice lessons have paid off nicely. He sounds like an evil Garrison Keilor from Iraqi Home Companion or is it Halliburton Home Companion? Very smooth voice, I only heard him huffing a few times through the debate. And they did a remarkable job of keeping him from sweating like a stuck pig. He looked pretty good overall, although I kept having hallucinations that his head was throbbing. Maybe it was just me.
John Edwards is an interesting choice for a vice president. He is the opposite of Cheney in terms of experience and ideology. Where Cheney has been dug in for decades of power consolidation and favor collecting, Edwards looks like he's barely old enough to buy beer. Not that its a bad thing. He's a damned good looking guy and I'm all for a good looking guy a heart beat away from the presidency.
Which got me to thinking. Holy shit, Dick Cheney is a breath away from absolute power? How is the world still here? How have we not been blown into itty bitty bits by now? I gained some respect for Cheney tonight, he's showed admirable restraint for not assuming power just because Bush is a nimrod hick from Texas, not a career Washington guy like him.
Who won? Whoever you think won, they won. For me, I liked some of Edwards pointed questions to Cheney about Halliburton, I liked watching Edwards counter Cheney's attacks on Kerry's voting records with what Cheney has voted against. Somehow, I don't think senior citizens are going to appreciate him voting against Meals on Wheels for Seniors. And I'll give the point to Edwards on the whole cost of prescriptions and how to control them better and more effectively.
Where Cheney attacked John Kerry, John Edwards held him up. Cheney didn't speak to Bush's strengths much, if at all. Edwards brought some pretty good knowledge to the table, nowhere near the gulf between Bush and Kerry last week.
And Cheney was rude. At the end, just before their closing statements, John Edwards thanked the moderator (though she did a crappy job and should never be given as sweet a gig as this one ever again) and then thanked Cheney for showing up. Not effusive, nothing over the top, just recognized that he came to play.
Cheney thanked the moderator and jumped right into his spin again. Never thanked John Edwards for showing up. It was noticable to me. I wonder how many other people noticed that he's kind of a rude man who kept saying the same thing again and again. He sent people to a spam site that was quickly turned into a redirect for George Soros and he said we should stay the course of Iraq.
Staying the course means alot more people dying when they don't have to.
A few more days until the next go round with Kerry and Bush. Another solid win for Kerry will put Bush well back on the ropes. Polls already have the two tied right now. Another push of swing votes towards Kerry and Bush will all but fall.
John Edwards won the debate in my mind. Doesn't matter though, I'm not an undecided voter. I'm squarely aligned against the festering malignancy of lies and misdeeds that is the Bush Administration.

Leading by Example?
Halliburton: A handy guide from Halliburton Watch
via Captain Normal
Some highlights:
1) Conflict of interest: Cheney continues to receive income from Halliburton
2) Cheney’s involvement in awarding no-bid contract to Halliburton
3) Iraq contracts: Criminal investigations and rampant waste, fraud and abuse
4) Doing business with “Axis of Evil” countries like Iran
5) Halliburton’s sales to Saddam Hussein under Cheney
6) Halliburton paid bribes during Cheney's reign, say investigators
7) Halliburton and ‘frivolous’ lawsuits
8) Leaving workers and retirees behind
9) Accounting fraud
10) Corporate welfare
11) Asbestos liability: Cheney’s legacy
12) Donald Rumsfeld
I'd also add in that whole canned "hunting" event that was really just some fat white assholes with shotguns killing birds as they were released from cages. Nice, demonstrates what kind of a mentality this crooked Dick carries with him.

Mexed Missages
I'd almost forgotten about Bush's speaking flub. Mexed Missages. Muxed Massages. Moxud Mussiges?
