What Does $87B Look Like?

A thread I posted up to MetaFilter today about US soldiers torturing and killing journalists in Iraq turned up a link to this site that gives an excellent sense of what $87,000,000,000.00 looks like.

Also, another member posted his own attempts to come to grips with just how many people have been dying during this war. He counted out BB's and laid them out to snap some pics. Its pretty amazing.

They Would Sooner Change the Rules Than Lose

Anyone who thought things would get better after the election was stupid and dead wrong.

House Republicans Change Rules to Protect DeLay.

They want to keep this shit heel in power while he's being indicted by a Texas grand jury? Yeah, hello, he's being fucking indicted for political illegalities from his fund raising. The case he's being indicted for has a direct bearing on his fitness to serve. He should be removed from the House and every damned GOP bitch that changes the rules to cover their own fucking crooks should be taken for a long drag through the country.

No wonder people are jaded about politics. They are out in the open crooked fucks now, they don't even make the pretense of hiding in backrooms.

Calls on Kerry to "Unconcede": Send In Your Stories of Disenfranchisement

Excerpts from an email from Cheryl Guttman: Nov 9 Kerry's considering unconceding and having a recount. He has asked people to send firsthand experiences of disenfranchisement to his brother's law office and his office is eagerly counting calls that are encouraging him to unconcede and ask for a recount!

Contact Kerry: (202) 224-2742 -Phone (202) 224-8525 - Fax
If you have witnessed or experienced disenfranchisement you can contact his brother's law office -- they are collecting information which will be vital at CKerry@Mintz.com.

Combine this news with Zogby's Exit Polls Should be Bulletproof and the old war dog may not be rolling and asking for some belly rubs yet. He may just rise up and bring these issues to the people.

Good! With some luck we may just fix the system. With some serious luck, we may force a recount and that may change the outcome of the election for the betterment of the country and the world.

But wait! There's more,

Who is Alberto Gonzales?

So what kind of a man is the new Attorny General? Well, he likes killing things, he likes torturing things and he doesn't really like the idea of being held accountable to the Geneva Conventions.

Read The Roots of Torture for some more insight on this new Attorney General. I'm sure you'll be just as unsurprised that Bush selected him, he's a craven asshole who thinks our troops should be able to torture prisoners without regard to their rights at all.

Nice! Kinder and gentler, indeed.

The further raping of a nation continues unabated while slack jawed yokels belly up to their tv's to watch American Idol. God Bless America, because we've sneezed hatred, intolerance and the culture of fear all over ourselves. I'd prefer the non-secular Gesundheit (German for Good health rather than extending that stupid belief that a sneeze exorcised a demon).

Who's going to replace Evans? What about Colin Powell? I can't imagine any scenario where Powell stays involved with this administration. Unless he's been so thoroughly beat down that he doesn't have the strength to get up and leave anymore. Then they should just put him out of his misery.

Breaking Codes in Ohio

The Ohio Code is Atrios' quick take on how there is a mismatch in the reported numbers in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Specifically, how the number of votes counted at the ward level and the number of votes counted at the township and municipality level (he explains that the wards are subunits).

If the difference between the two tallies is calculated then you end up with a strange and not bloody likely to be random pattern. Atrios goes on to say how he's just reloaded the page and the numbers have been changed to match up. Perhaps it was, as he adds later, just the addition of the absentee ballots but if that's the case then how did the number patterns emerge.

He is, as am I, asking for an explanation.

I guess that's how I'd explain it, Amelia.

Olbermann Looks Into Some Curious Voting Results

Electronic voting angst by Keith Olbermann.

The more this most recent election is examined, the more its looking like there are some pretty serious shenanigans going on, either intentionally or accidentally, in either case, this needs to be addressed and fixed.

Results in which Bush got more votes in a given precinct than there were registered voters in that precinct. And we're not talking 10 or 20 votes, we're talking 93,000 votes.

Here, "Interestingly, none of the complaining emailers took issue with the remarkable results out of Cuyahoga County, Ohio. In 29 precincts there, the County’s website shows, we had the most unexpected results in years: more votes than voters.

I’ll repeat that: more votes than voters. 93,000 more votes than voters.

Oops."

And anyone who wants to tell me to quit whining and get over it that Bush won is going to get punched in the face. Bush didn't win, Bush was given this election by rigged machines without a paper trail. He's not the president, he's not that commander in chief, he's the thief in chief, again.

Why this hasn't been ALL OVER THE NEWS is ridiculous and goes to further show how dirty the election process is.

Ohio isn't clear, Pennsyvania isn't clear, New Hampshire isn't clear, Nevada and New Mexico aren't clear. How this election has been called for Bush is a joke. Kerry shouldn't have conceded, he should have waited until the final votes were tallied and a real winner was declared (and not by having a partisan provisional and absentee ballot inspector decide which votes should count and which should be tossed out).

A Less Than Enlightened Take on the South

Rove: Bush Will Absolutely Seek a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

Don't blame me for the fucker, I voted for Kerry, Rove speaks out on Bush's win.

Some choice bits,
"Five thousand years of human history should not be overthrown by the acts of a few liberal judges or by the acts of a few local elected officials," Rove said on NBC's Meet the Press. "Marriage is and should be defined as being between one man and one woman."

In regards to the election, "Rove said he was "almost physically ill" when he heard the numbers, but then grew angry as he studied them more closely."

And asked about the Republicans retaining power for the foreseeable future? "Would I like to see the Republican Party be the dominant party for whatever time history gives it the chance to be? You bet."

Abortion's going to get attacked, the environment is going to be further attacked (what part of a national wildlife refuge makes anyone think oil drilling equipment is a good idea?), and there's ohhh so much more. The fucker in charge has a "mandate" now, a 3 percent, likely stolen mandate and he intends to turn back the clock to the puritan era, only with them internets!

Rove did not continue....
"Yeah, let's chase down those pesky human and civil rights and pander to our evangelical base, oh boy! Screw the queers, screw the women, screw the black man, screw them all, HAHAHAHAHA. Power is great! Now give me a fresh fetus to suck the stem cells out of!"

Time The Dems Sought Some Insight

House Dems Seek Election Inquiry not because they think the outcome will change but because they (unlike the GOP) are interested in making the election process as problem free as possible.

And I'm all for it.

Diebold is a corrupt company that promised Bush a win in Ohio and that's how the election swung. There are some pretty severe discrepancies with the machines and its utter bullshit that this country hasn't fixed the system. If I were a conspiracitionist I might think there was some of plan to keep the system so flawed.

Ralph to the Rescue!

Looks like its Nader to the rescue, he's going to try and force an investigation. Nader/Camejo Challenge Electronic Voting Results in New Hampshire

Voting Machine Anamolies

Yahoo's Screenshot of Ohio's Electorate and the caption says a voting machine error gave Bush an extra 3,893 votes in one county.

How many counties are in Ohio? What are the chances it happened in a few other places? Just enough to give Bush a solid margin of victory? Yeah.

Something smells and its starting to smell more and more like a rat.

The Conspiracy's Wraps are Coming Off

Machine Error Gives Bush Extra Ohio Votes.

Um yeah, where's that fucking recount? Where's some proof now that BushCo DIDN'T STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION?

Oh yeah, there's also this, Voting Machine Discrepancies Favor Bush.

Goddamn! Where is the media outrage? Where is the coverage? Why aren't people marching on Washington yet and demanding an accurate and full accounting of the election?

What in the fuck is wrong with this nation?

The Best Quote on the Election I've Seen

From Eschaton comes Atrios' take on the election, it resonates very, very well to me and is incredibly depressing: "The people who voted George Bush and the Republicans into office this year didn't do so because they were conned by a right wing asshole posing as a compassionate centrist. They did so precisely because he is a right wing asshole. Yes, the modern Republican party consists of nasty bigots and liars and the media rarely bothers to point out just how nasty they are (all the talking heads talking about the role of 'moral values' in the election know that what that really means is 'fag hating,' but they won't say it). But, don't be fooled - people know what they voted for."

By the way, Bush and his "reaching out across the aisle"? Has already been debunked, he gave a speech last night and basically said that he doesn't need the Democrats, he's got political capital to spend.

So, um yeah, the reach out lasted less than 24 hours. Nice, that was an utterly token soundbite bullshit placation.

Here, George, reach out and grab a hold of my finger.

Tompaine.com - Kerry Won in Ohio and America

Tom Paine examines the numbers from Ohio and comes up with a pretty startling conclusion, Kerry Won.

And if Kerry won Ohio then he won the election and should be the next president.

I will be very, very interested to see how this shakes out. Especially if it means my boy ends up taking residence in the White House.

The Time for Wallowing is Done, Action Time is Now

Yesterday sucked big sweaty goat nuts. It was a day of mourning for me and I did wear all black all day. I don't think anyone really got it but that's okay, it was for me.

Now is the time to start looking ahead. To that end, I'm pasting in an email that's been sent around in my family and was forwarded on to me by my sister.

Like you, I am deeply saddened tonight. Not only do I despair for my country but also I am at a loss to understand how half of my
neighbors can see things so totally opposite from our perspective. So, after my immediate reaction to run to another country, which I have rejected for a number of reasons, I'm trying to look carefully at what I can expect in the next four years the effect of that and what I can do to counter the things I object to so strongly.

So, here's what I think. We will have a dramatic change in the Supreme Court and they may change many long standing decisions. They may not...as stare decises (let the decision stand) is a long standing Court tradition. But, let's think about what may happen. Miranda rights reversed, affirmative action rejected, Roe v. Wade reversed, civil rights lost...to name a few. Since we cannot change the Court decisions we can work in our own states on issues like reproductive health care access (a reversal of Roe will toss abortion decisions back to the states.) We can stand with our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to work for rights for them and try to help all those, prisoners, people of color, etc. who will be negatively affected by these changes. We can become more active with our own Congressional representatives sending email to them and to the Pres whenever we have an opinion. (A funny story about that, I keep the White House email address in my list on the computer. When I changed from aol to msn I sent a message to everyone on my list. Isn't it nice that Shrub got an update on my computer address.

I am going to start thinking about what I will personally commit to in preperation for the next election cycle in two years and then the next presidential election cycle in four.

Yesterday was mourning, today is action. That is all for now.

Morford's Cut

I didn't smile a bit reading Wallow In Chaos, And Laugh, Morford's latest screed but there is one paragraph that struck home.

"It simply boggles the mind: We've already had four years of some of the most appalling and abusive foreign and domestic policy in American history, some of the most well-documented atrocities ever wrought on the American populace and it's all combined with the biggest and most violently botched and grossly mismanaged war since Vietnam, and still much of the nation still insists in living in a giant vat of utter blind faith, still insists on believing the man in the White House couldn't possibly be treating them like a dog treats a fire hydrant."

Thanks, America! You've just about exorcised my faith in the intelligance of the American people.

Globalvote 2004: Kerry Wins by a Landslide

Globalvote 2004 has the results of the Global vote for the US presidency if the world was allowed to vote.

The short answer is that Kerry wins by a freaking landslide, 77% to 9% for Bush. Bush would even be beaten by the "Others" combined. Scary to see how easily the rest of the world can recognize that we've got a fool in charge now.

Hopefully that will change tomorrow.
