So, um yeah, in the political equivalent of trying to go for the nutshot, Bush has trotted out the Fundie Nightmare, that is, Gay Marriage.
Yes, despite the fact that pretty well nobody cares and the proposal will die on the Senate floor, its a political tactic by ShrubCo to wedge voters and see if they can weasel another election on truly unimportant "issues" while ignoring the real problems in this country.
Gay Marriage isn't a real issue, its a smokescreen, a wedge, its a "Hey, look over here" while our soldiers are dying, while our economy is waffling, while our national debt is soaring to unimaginable depths and while our natural resources are being plundered by greedheaded Bush cronies.
And the real issues?
Healthcare - its a nightmare and its getting worse, not better.
War in Iraq - Mission Accomplished? What was the friggin' mission?
Gas Prices - Why would Bush care, his pals are making mad, mad, mad bank because of this.
Economy - Again, why would Bush care, he and his friends have plenty of money and are making more and more every second.
Environment - environmental protection is not giving corporations open and free access to our national resources just as rape protection doesn't include a ruffie and an IUD.
Corruption - this regime is filthy, everyone knows it and yet they have not cleaned house at all. They replaced the mouthpiece (with a substantial upgrade in Tony Snow over Scottie "I Sweat Constantly" McClellan) but the main players are the same and continue to enjoy the president's wholly unqualified support despite repeated and massive mistakes that have cost lives and billions of dollars.
The National Debt - Does anyone else remember the massive surplus Clinton left us with? Yeah, I barely do anymore either. We are so deep in debt that our economy would collapse if just Saudi Arabia came asking for full payment. Thanks George, and my grandchildren thank you since they'll be paying off your debtload.
Does everyone remember when Bush pledged to unite the country? I do and I'm still waiting. Maybe he's trying to unite the country against him? He's doing a good job at that with a smokin' 28% approval rating in California and ever-sinking approvals everywhere else.
It is time for a change, its time for leaders who lead and actually do what they say they are going to do.
And its time for the US Goverment to stand up and be held accountable for its misdeeds, its torture and other crimes.
Taking back control of the country is the first step towards holding these crooked and divisive bastards to task.
Do not let Gay Marriage dissuade you, do not let the other inevitable smokescreens they will try to throw up dissuade you. Until and unless the Republicans actually start to really try to address the real problems in the US, just ignore them. There are people that are actually trying to improve the state of this nation of ours, not just pocket mad profits, they may not be wholly effective but at least they give a damn about everyone, not just their uber-rich pals, they are called Democrats.
Let's work to take back our country. Vote and encourage others to vote.
