I just read this article, U.S. Soldier Convicted of Killing Iraqi Walks Free, in which this soldier killed a wounded Iraqi, was found guilty of it and his "punishment" is to be discharged from the Army and not to serve any jail time or anything.
I don't get it. He killed someone and now has more freedom than he did when he killed him. How is that punishing him?
Yes, I get that he may have been on track to be a career soldier and they've denied him that. But come on, he KILLED someone for no reason other than he thought they were in an undignified position? What's next? He'll be invited to the White House so George Bush can give him the Congressional Medal of Honor? And then appoint him as the US Ambassador to Iraq? Or maybe he'll even just try to put him on the Supreme Court?
